Osun Prince Challenges Gov Adeleke in Court over new Aree of Iree Selection

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State is facing legal action over the appointment of a new Aree of Iree in Boripe local government area. Prince Afolabi Alli has filed a suit against the Governor, alleging a violation of the constitution in the selection process. Alli seeks to nullify the appointment of Prince Ibrahim Oyelakin and argues that only the Olubonku ruling house has the rightful claim to the throne, citing their historical lineage.

The plaintiff accuses Governor Adeleke of disregarding due process and the rule of law in the appointment, labeling the selection process as “a rape of the Constitution and complete fraud.” Alli contends that according to the native law and custom of Iree Kingdom, only the Kingmakers have the authority to elect or select the Aree Chieftaincy.

In his petition to the State High Court in Ikirun, Alli requests the nullification of the entire selection process and the recognition of Oyelakin as the Aree of Iree. He argues that the process was conducted or participated in by individuals not designated as Kingmakers, thus violating customary norms.

Furthermore, he seeks an injunction to prevent any acceptance or recognition of candidates from ruling houses other than Olubonku.
