The Nigerian Labour Congress NLC has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the federal government of Nigeria, to reverse every unfriendly policy or it will embark on a nationwide strike from the 2nd of August.
The Congress accused those currently in power of continuously treating Nigerians as slaves without any concern about the consequences.
In a communique signed by the national president, Joe Ajaero, and Secretary-General, Emmanuel Ugboaja, the congress stated that Nigerians have lost their peace of mind following the removal of fuel subsidy by Tinubu during his May 29, 2023, inauguration.
The commission has therefore directed all its affiliates and state councils to immediately begin mobilization of workers and other Nigerians, including civil society allies, for long-lasting strikes and mass protests should the government fail to meet its demands.
The NLC demands are coming days after the Trade Union Congress, TUC also gave the federal government a two-week ultimatum to reach an agreement on negotiations or face workers’ protests.
