Imo State Election: Peter Obi Forecasts Power Shift, Flags Off Achonu’s Campaign

Peter Obi, the 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) has urged the current Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, to prepare to vacate office. The call came as part of the run-up to the November 11, 2023, gubernatorial election in the state.

The former governor made this statement in Owerri during the campaign kickoff for LP’s Imo State gubernatorial candidate, Senator Athan Achonu. Obi voiced his expectation that the LP’s victory in the forthcoming election would signal an end to the alleged mismanagement plaguing the state.

Despite rumors of intra-party leadership disputes and multiple candidates, Obi reassured party members and supporters that the LP remains united under national chairman Abure. He further emphasized his confidence in Senator Athan Achonu as the sole LP candidate for governor in Imo State.

Obi, expressing his faith in the party’s capacity for transformation, urged Nigerians to give the LP a chance to effect change. He pointed to the positive developments in Abia State under an LP administration as evidence of what the party can achieve.

The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, corroborated Obi’s statements about the party’s unity and its sole candidate, Senator Achonu, adding that the party’s reputation for good governance would manifest in Imo State if given the chance.

In his remarks, Senator Achonu outlined his plans for the state once in office, promising to address infrastructural issues, ensure timely payment of civil servants and pensioners, and restore security.
