Vendetta? Justice Abimbola Awogboro Jails Bobrisky 6 Months for Naira Abuse, Denies Fine Option

  • Homosexuality, bisexuality, transvestism, before African colonization, is a phenomenon understood in ancient African cultural context as, people with male and female spiritual energies, aka “twin-souls”
  • Only native African spirituality could boldly interpret this for clarity without the need for aggression

LAGOS – The Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday, sentenced well known “twin-soul” celebrity, Idris Olarewaju Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, to six months imprisonment for naira abuse, strangely without the option of fine

Justice Abimbola Awogboro, while sentencing Bobrisky, said the judgment would be a deterrent to others who are found abusing and mutilating the naira. The judge ruled that the jail term would commence from March 24, 2024, the day Bobrisky was arrested.

It would be recalled that the court had, on April 5, convicted him after he pleaded guilty to the charge of naira abuse filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Proceedings on the case was however postponed owing to the Eid-el-Fitr public holiday.

The accused, Bobrisky, reportedly tried pleading ignorance of the law governing naira abuse in hope for leniency, reiterating that he is a social media influencer with millions of followers however the judge responded that ignorance of the law was not an excuse.

He said, “I know, My Lord. My Lord, I wish that you could give me a second chance to use my platform to inform and educate my followers about spraying money.

“I would do a video on my page and I would educate people about spraying money.

“I will not repeat it, My Lord. I regret my actions, My Lord.”

The case itself, according to observers online, seem strangely laced with a hint of vendetta. With Nigeria’s impoverished masses constantly assaulted with a daily barrage of corruption laden news implicating well known faces currently seated in the corridors of power, people are asking if this sudden move against Bobrisky, a well known LGBT personality, is not a calculated targeting of his sexuality and by extension, the “twin-soul” demography in Nigeria

Observers are wondering if this is not orchestrated by those in government who are cunningly making sure, on one hand the international community does not, in the slightest, perceive this as government backed homophobic attack against a group, and on the other, a means to going after Nigerians, particularly the youths, who vehemently opposed the enthronement of this current administration
