ABUJA – Young Arise TV presenter and lawyer Somtochukwu “Sommie” Christelle Maduagwu was tragically killed during an armed robbery at her residence in the Katampe area of the Federal Capital Territory
The following day, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo expressed his deep grief, calling her death “heartbreaking” and lamenting the loss not only to her family but to the state, the media industry, and Nigeria at large. In his condolence message issued on September 30, 2025, Soludo described her as a “lawyer by training and journalist by passion,” whose promising career was cut short by senseless violence.
Authorities have been urged to carry out a thorough, transparent, and swift investigation, and apprehend those responsible. The FCT Police Command confirmed that they have launched probes into the circumstances of her murder.
Maduagwu, born in 1995, was widely known for her work as an anchor, reporter, and producer, and was celebrated for bridging her legal background with media activism.
Her killing has reignited national outcry over Nigeria’s insecurity, as calls grow louder for protective reforms for citizens, especially media practitioners.
