Boko Haram Terrorize Borno, Destroy Palace, Kill Two

BORNO –  Suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked Kirawa, a community on the Nigeria–Cameroon border in Gwoza LGA, Borno State, killing two civilians, abducting another, and setting ablaze the palace of the District Head, shops, and several homes.

One victim died on the spot, while the abducted man’s fate remains unknown. Some residents said militants had left the area, but many fled across the border into Cameroon for safety.

Local sources report that in the repulsion effort, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local hunters engaged the attackers, reportedly killing one of them.

Kirawa recently saw escalating violence: three days earlier, insurgents ambushed a CJTF convoy on the Kirawa-Pulka road, killing one member and burning six vehicles.

Senator Ali Ndume (Borno South) confirmed and condemned the attack, warning that renewed incursions in Kirawa and neighbouring communities have gravely undermined security. He praised the military and CJTF but called for deployment of drones, attack helicopters, and stronger troop presence in vulnerable border areas.

Kirawa had hosted a Cameroonian military base until several months ago—but it was overrun in a previous attack, leaving the border region more exposed.

This latest raid highlights persistent security fragility in north-eastern Nigeria, where Boko Haram and its splinter factions continue to menace civilian populations, traditional institutions, and state authority.
