  • Eze Nwokpor 111 advocates for cultural traditions in marriage to reduce divorce rates

The community of Ndieze Enyim in Ebonyi State has recently elected Chief John Nwokpor Nwophoke Odah, a retired police officer, as their traditional ruler. Chief Odah, who served as a Sergeant in the Nigeria Police Force, has been chosen as the Eze-elect (Nwopho 111 of NdieborIshiagu) in Ndieze Inyimegu autonomous community. Expressing gratitude for the support he received from fellow aspirants, Chief Odah emphasized his commitment to fostering peace and development within the community.

In his address following the election, Chief Odah pledged to uphold fairness and balance in managing the affairs of both traditional worshippers and Christians. He highlighted the importance of addressing the communication gap between farmers and politicians to mitigate food insecurity in the South-East. Chief Odah called for timely release of farm inputs and incentives to empower farmers, urging government intervention in ensuring accessibility to these resources.

Addressing broader societal issues, Chief Odah emphasised the necessity of youth empowerment and attributed national insecurity to politicians’ failure in adequately supporting their supporters post-election. He also emphasized the importance of cultural traditions in marriage, aiming to reduce divorce rates within the community.

Chief Odah’s ascension to power comes six years after the passing of his predecessor, His Royal Highness, Eze Thomas Elom.
