Oyo Monarchs, Citizens Urged to be Vigilant against Illegal Miners, Criminals

Oyo State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to tackling any involvement of traditional rulers in facilitating illegal mining activities. Speaking during the coronation ceremony of the new Asigangan of Igangan, Oba Rafiu Adeniyi, the Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal, urged monarchs to remain vigilant against illegal mining within their territories to curb associated criminal activities like banditry and kidnapping.

Emphasizing the government’s unwavering commitment to enhancing security in Ibarapa and Oyo State, Makinde stressed the importance of cooperation between traditional rulers and the administration. He outlined the established three-stage process for the installation of new kings, underscoring the necessity for adherence to due process in future installations.

In his address, the newly crowned Asigangan expressed gratitude to the state government and pledged to foster collaboration among residents and neighboring communities, particularly in bolstering security measures. He appealed to Governor Makinde for support in vital community projects, including the completion of a hospital, restoration of electricity, and construction of a suitable palace.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matter, Segun Olayiwola, echoed the government’s stance on preserving the values of respect, harmony, and progress in Igangan. He called on the new monarch to join efforts in combating illegal mining and land encroachment.
