- The disregard for African life, a disturbing sign of acculturation via colonisation, is a shocking phenomenon across all Nigerian security agencies
In a shocking turn of events, a young man lost his life allegedly at the hands of the Anti Tout unit in Anambra State. The incident occurred when the unit, launched by Governor Soludo, tasked with maintaining order in public spaces, reportedly confronted the victim for urinating inside a gutter.
Eyewitnesses claim that the situation escalated quickly, leading to gunfire and the tragic death of the young man. According to a post made on X, formerly Twitter, @obajiifeanyi narrated the ugly incident.
“For urinating inside gutter, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s @CCSoludo Anti Tout unit shot and kiIIed this young man.
Who in his right sense gives weapon to touts?
Bulu egbe bunye ndị agafu na ese goof!! They kiIIed a life you swore an oath to protect.
A family has probably lost a son, husband, father, brother cousin, nephew” he posted.
Questions have been raised regarding the appropriateness of arming such units, particularly with lethal weapons, and the circumstances under which force was deemed necessary. Critics are condemning the use of deadly force in what should have been a routine enforcement action, emphasizing the need for better training and oversight.
At the time of this report, the Anambra State Government is yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.
