World Athletics has openly debunked reports circulating the media that Nigerian 100m hurdles champion and record holder, Tobi Amusan, have been cleared of doping charges to defend her title at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary next week.
The Athletics governing body made this clarification via an e-mail message to accredited journalists set to cover the championship in Budapest.
The email reads,
“Please be advised – reports that say Tobi Amusan has been cleared to compete in Budapest are wrong,” Nicole Jeffery, World Athletics’ Head of Communications, said in a statement. No decision has been made in this case yet. When a decision is made, it will be announced by the Athletics Integrity Unit.”
Recall that Amusan was suspended by the AIU last month, for charges of three missing tests and doping violations. She however claimed her innocence via email a press release on her Instagram page, and vowed to appeal the case in court.
The AIU accepted her decision and confirmed that the case will be declared before the start of the World Championships, and if cleared, she will be in Budapest to defend her world title.
The AIU has said a decision regarding the matter will be made before the start of the World Championships.
