Release of Nnamdi Kanu Could Pacify the Eastern Region- Chief Udeze

In a recent interview with Chief Kenneth Udeze, the National Chairman of Action Alliance (AA), the focus shifted to the ongoing unrest in Nigeria’s South-East region. Udeze, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, expressed his belief that the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the incarcerated leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), could play a vital role in restoring peace to the volatile region.

Describing Kanu as a “21st Century political hero,” Udeze highlighted the rare qualities of leadership that Kanu has exhibited while being illegally detained. Udeze emphasized that Kanu has consistently voiced the concerns of the people he represents, speaking out against perceived marginalization and advocating for their liberation. Despite facing numerous legal challenges, Kanu has garnered significant support from South-Easterners who believe in his cause.

A key point raised by Udeze was the cancellation of the sit-at-home order by Kanu. This order, which was previously observed in the South-East, had led to economic disruptions and hindered social development in the region. Udeze commended Kanu for his decision to cancel the order, stating that it has had a positive impact on restoring peace in the region.

However, Udeze also acknowledged the existence of certain individuals and groups, such as Simon Ekpa and non-state actors, whose activities continue to pose challenges in the South-East. He expressed his hope that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would demonstrate the same political will he exhibited with the removal of fuel subsidy and order for the release of Nnamdi Kanu. Udeze believes that such a bold action from the President would not only contribute to restoring peace but also ensure the security of lives and property in the volatile region.

On a broader political note, Udeze briefly touched upon the performance of President Bola Tinubu and his ministerial appointments. While refraining from a comprehensive assessment, he expressed his observations that certain appointments appeared to be more politically motivated rather than based on merit. Udeze suggested that with a clear vision and the political will to act, the President should be prepared to terminate appointments that do not effectively contribute to his goals and replace them with more competent individuals.

Chief Kenneth Udeze’s interview shed light on the potential impact of releasing Nnamdi Kanu on the peace and stability of Nigeria’s South-East region. Udeze’s call to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to exercise his political will and order Kanu’s release reflects the sentiments of many South-Easterners who believe in Kanu’s cause and hope for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing issues in the region.
