Budapest 2023 World Championships: Athletics Federation of Nigeria Announces Athlete Roster, Amusan in Main Entry

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has officially announced its final list of athletes for the 2023 World Championships set to commence in Budapest, Hungary on August 19.

U.S.-based speed star Udodi Onwuzurike and Godson Brume have been excluded from the squad. The former could not recover in time from an injury while the latter withdrew from the championships due to health issues. They have been replaced by Nicholas Fakorode and Kalington Anunagba.

The list includes world silver medalist and long jumper Ese Brume, along with Itshekiri Usheoritshe, Favour Ashe, and Alaba Akintola. Other athletes on the roster are Seye Ogunlewe, Nathaniel Ezekiel, Nathaniel Samson, Dubem Nwachukwu, Chidi Okezie, Samuel Ogazi, and shot putter Enekwechi Chukwuebuka.

The women’s team for the championships features Rosemary Chukwuma, Ofili Favour, Faith Okwose, Eyakpobeyan Justina, Success Umukoro, Uko Nse Imaobong, Patience George, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Oke Opeyemi, Ruth Usoro, Amaechi Obiageri Pamela, Anumba Ashley, Onyekwere Chioma, and Olatoye Oyesade.

Tobi Amusan, the World Record holder in the 100m hurdles, has been placed in the main entry list sent to World Athletics, as confirmed by AFN Technical Director, Samuel Onikeku. Amusan’s participation is contingent upon clearance from the Athletes Integrity Unit (AIU).
