Lagos State: Group Threatens Legal Action if Sanwo-Olu’s WAEC Certificate is not Produced in 48hrs

LAGOS – The Eko United Group, a non-partisan organization, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to present the secondary school certificate of Lagos State’s Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu or face potential legal repercussions.

The group communicated this demand during a press briefing in Lagos on Wednesday. They expressed concern over allegations that Governor Sanwo-Olu may have presented a falsified WAEC result to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during his 2019 election campaign. Such an action could lead to disqualification as directed by section 182 (1) j of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Hon. Ayodele Kumolu-Johnson, their publicity secretary, voiced their dissatisfaction over the absence of Sanwo-Olu’s certificate during the tribunal proceedings. The group has been waiting for the Governor to disprove these accusations by publicly showing his original WAEC certificate or asking WAEC to produce a certified copy if the original is no longer available.

Kumolu-Johnson noted that it was challenging to comprehend why Governor Sanwo-Olu, who declared in his 2023 election EC9 form under oath that he took the WAEC exams in 1981, did not attach the said certificate. However, he did include a statement of WAEC results from Ijebu Ife Community Grammar School in his Form CF001 during his 2019 election campaign.

The group henceforth demands WAEC to produce Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s 1981 certificate within the next 48 hours or be prepared to face legal charges.
