BENIN CITY– On Wednesday, June 21, the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) suffered a setback as one of its founding members, Kenneth Imansuangbon, defected to the opposition Labour Party (LP). Known popularly as Riceman, Imansuangbon was a key contender in the 2020 Edo State governorship election.
It is reported that Imansuangbon received his Labour Party membership card after his departure from PDP, ahead of the 2024 Edo State governorship election. The former governorship aspirant expressed his frustration with the prevalence of godfathers in state politics and declared that Edo State’s political landscape should be determined by ordinary citizens.
Imansuangbon, who has been pursuing the Edo State governorship for 20 years, expressed optimism that the LP would support his aspirations and grant him the party ticket. “I pray that LP will get it right, and if they do get it right and give me the ticket, it will mean game over for the godfathers,” he said.
Confident of victory in the 2024 election, Imansuangbon emphasized the importance of the people’s support for his political ambitions.
