Napoli ace striker, Victor Osimhen has been tipped as favorite amongst other African footballers to win the 2023 CAF African Footballer of the Year award
Osimhen who has been on a remarkable form after leading his club Napoli to win their first Serie A trophy in 33 years, is also ranked amongst the world’s best strikers
Former Nigerian striker Victor Ikpeba believes that the Super Eagles forward has done remarkably well to be considered for the award.
Ikpeba said,
“Osimhen doesn’t need to win the Africa Cup of Nations to be crowned the African Footballer of The Year for 2023. If Napoli wins the Serie A and they get to the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League like the semifinals or the final, he can be the African Footballer of The Year”.
Also, former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Seyi Adebayor disclosed that no other African player deserves to win the award, other than Victor Osimhen. Osimhem rivals the likes of Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mane, Riyad Mahrez and Yassine Bounou for the award.
The prestigious CAF Awards will hold on 11 December 2023 in Morocco to celebrate the stars of African football. The awards will recognize the standout performers from club and country over the past year, with the highlight being the crowning of the CAF African Player of the Year in both the men’s and women’s categories.
