Arising from an emergency meeting held in Calabar on Sunday, the Cross River State branch of the Nigerian medical association has withdrawn services due to the kidnap of a medical practitioner who was abducted past Thursday.
Dr. Ekanem Ephraim, a medical practitioner with the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), was kidnapped from her residence at around 7.30 p.m. by armed men pretending to be patients
The Chairman of the NMA in Cross River, Dr Felix Archibong, noted that the association is not ignorant of the difficulty which the decision would exert on the citizens but the actions of the medical associations is to influence government to rise to duty in order to secure the release of their member.
The withdrawal action cuts across all state and federal government health facilities in Cross River state.
Recall that the eastern region has recently been experiencing “questionable” insecurity as well as kidnappings which was pretty much alien before the administeration of the Buhari administeration
