Abia State: Governor Otti Reveals N200 Billion Debt Incurred by Past PDP-led Government

During a thanksgiving church service for the newly elected member of the House of Representatives, Obi Aguocha, Governor Alex Otti addressed the challenges facing Abia State and called for the urgent support of all citizens in overcoming them.

The event, held at Okaiuga Central School in Umuahia North local government area, was attended by prominent personalities, friends, political associates, and supporters of the federal lawmaker.

Governor Otti took the opportunity to disclose that the previous administration, led by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had left Abia State burdened with a substantial debt of N200 billion. He emphasized the present government’s unwavering commitment to rescuing the state from this financial crisis caused by the misplaced priorities of the previous administration.

Addressing the concerns surrounding the delay in constituting the state executive council since his inauguration, Governor Otti assured the public that the full constitution of the council would be announced before the end of June. He also acknowledged the pressing issue of salary arrears and unpaid pensions for retirees, affirming the government’s determination to promptly address these financial obligations.

Governor Otti further revealed that a forensic audit of pensioners had commenced to ensure that only deserving individuals receive their entitlements. This audit aims to rectify the presence of fictitious figures and unverifiable numbers, ensuring transparency and fairness in the pension payment process.

The governor called upon the patience and support of the people of Abia State, emphasizing that the era of corrupt practices going unpunished is now in the past. He urged citizens to rally together and help drive the state towards a brighter future.

Governor Alex Otti’s candid revelation of Abia State’s N200 billion debt highlights the need for collective effort and determination in overcoming the financial challenges faced by the state. With a commitment to transparent governance and effective financial management, Abia State can work towards economic recovery and improved well-being for its citizens.
