Benin City – Governor Monday Okpebholo received a royal birthday gift from the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Ewuare II, through the monarch’s eldest daughter, Princess Iku Aimiuwu Ewuare, and Frank Irabor, Secretary of the Benin Traditional Council.
The ceremony took place at the Governor’s Office and was executed under the direct instruction of the Oba. Okpebholo described the gesture as “deeply humbling,” invoking a local proverb — “if you wash your hands well, you can eat with the elders” — to express his gratitude. He reaffirmed his dedication to the throne, pledging to uphold his loyalty to the Oba and continue driving development across Edo State.
Princess Aimiuwu delivered the Oba’s blessings and extended birthday wishes to the Governor. According to Frank Irabor, the presentation was part of the Oba’s directive to mark Okpebholo’s recent birthday.
This event reaffirms the cultural and symbolic ties between Edo State’s political leadership and its traditional monarchy, while spotlighting Okpebholo’s role as a bridge between modern governance and customary authority.
