Community Celebrates as next Olubadan receives Warm Homage

The anticipation for the next Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, has drawn a stream of visitors to both his family compound and private residence since Friday. Located in Ita Baale and Alalubosa areas respectively, these sites have become hubs of well-wishers and traditional drummers, marking the transition following the passing of the 42nd Olubadan, Oba Mahood Olalekan Balogun.

This significant event holds particular historical resonance as it marks the first time a traditional ruler with the Olubadan of Ibadanland title will hail from Ita Baale. The journey towards this began in 1983 when Oba Olakulehin was appointed as the Mogaji of the compound, subsequently rising to become the Jagun of Ibadan. The community’s excitement is palpable, with locals expressing optimism that his ascension will usher in a new era of development for the area.

The emergence of Oba Olakulehin has not only galvanized the local community but has also garnered attention from prominent figures across Ibadan. Notable individuals, including members of the Olubadan-In-Council led by Senator Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, have paid homage to the new Olubadan at his Alalubosa residence.

This tradition of homage-paying highlighted the deep-rooted cultural practices that accompany such transitions in Ibadan.
