Ogun Monarch Demolishes Market, Victims Lament Tyranny, Seek Redress

In Isheri-Mole area of Ogun State’s Ifo Local Government, tension mounts as traders clash with community monarch, Oba Sulaiman Bamigbade, over the demolition of shops and warehouses in the Isheri market. The monarch asserts that the government plans to establish a general hospital, community hall, and police station in the area, prompting the demolition. T

raders, however, claim they were given short notice and have suffered significant financial losses. Legal action is on the horizon as affected property owners vow to challenge what they perceive as highhandedness and abuse of power by the monarch.

Despite assertions of aiding community development, dissenting voices emerge among traders, criticizing the lack of proper consultation and the sudden nature of the demolition. While some welcome the proposed developments, others lament the loss of their businesses and assets. Ongoing legal battles loom large as affected parties seek restitution and assert their rights as legal occupants of the leased land.

Oba Bamgbade defends his actions, citing a lack of documentation proving the legitimacy of the traders’ occupancy. He asserts that legal proceedings are underway to address alleged leasing misconduct by a committee member during the late monarch’s tenure.

Emphasizing a commitment to community development, he maintains that dissenting voices primarily comprise non-indigenous individuals opposed to progress.
