The Ekiti State government issued a stern warning against the unlawful removal of traditional rulers and chiefs, stressing the importance of adhering to due process and legal protocols in such matters. Deputy Governor Mrs. Monisade Afuye intervened in a dispute between Chief Kehinde Oladapo, a kingmaker from Ejigan Quarters in Efon Alaaye, and Oba Emmanuel Aladejare, the Alaaye of Efon and paramount ruler of the kingdom.
During the meeting, Deputy Governor Afuye rejected the deposition of Chief Oladapo by Oba Aladejare, citing the need for adherence to due process. The intervention came after Chief Oladapo raised concerns about his alleged removal without proper procedure, leading to tensions within the community. In response, Oba Aladejare defended his actions, accusing Chief Oladapo of disrespect and insubordination.
In a statement, Mrs. Afuye urged Oba Aladejare to comply with the government’s position and reverse Chief Oladapo’s removal for the sake of peace. She cited that according to the Ekiti State Chiefs’ Law, any removal of traditional rulers or chiefs must be ratified by the government, highlighting the necessity of government involvement in such decisions. Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration is committed to fostering peace and stability across all towns in Ekiti State.
