Nasarawa State: Katakpa Monarch, 28 Others Killed by Terrorists

The village head of Katakpa in Toto local government area of Nasarawa State, Mr. Abdullahi Sadiq, along with 28 others, fell victim to a ruthless attack perpetrated by a militia group. The assault, which occurred on February 25, resulted in the loss of 17 members from one family and 11 from another, marking the fourth in a series of devastating onslaughts on the community.

Despite previous security meetings and agreements following a prior attack, the assailants struck again, leaving a trail of destruction including burnt houses, destroyed properties, and numerous fatalities.

During a session of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon Ibrahim Abdullahi Sa‘ad (PDP- Umaisha/Ugya) conveyed the harrowing details of the attack, expressing profound dismay over the recurring violence inflicted upon the people of Katakpa. He highlighted the urgent need for heightened security measures, advocating for the establishment of a military base in the area to deter further atrocities. Efforts to provide medical assistance to the injured, scattered across facilities in Nasarawa and Keffi local government areas, were underway.

In response to the devastating event, Speaker Danladi Jatau extended heartfelt condolences to the affected community. The assembly issued resolutions urging the state government to deploy security forces to Katakpa, establish a military presence to ensure ongoing security, and provide essential relief materials and shelter to displaced persons.
