NDDC to Unveil Strategic Obehie/Oke-Ikpe Road Linking Abia and Akwa Ibom State

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is poised to inaugurate the 9km Obehie/Oke-Ikpe Road in Ukwa West Local Government of Abia State, signaling progress in its efforts to complete projects across the Niger Delta region. Sir Victor Antai, the NDDC Executive Director (Projects), expressed satisfaction during an inspection of the road, emphasizing the commission’s commitment to enhancing economic and social activities in the area.

Accompanied by fellow NDDC directors and engineers, Antai emphasised the significance of the project for the communities it serves, affirming the commission’s dedication to realizing transformative initiatives in the Niger Delta.

In a statement by the commission’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Pius Ughakpoteni, Antai highlighted the anticipated benefits of the road for the people of Ukwa West and their neighboring communities in Abia and Akwa Ibom states. Antai praised the quality of work undertaken by the contractor, commending the asphalt overlay and solid drainage infrastructure. He expressed confidence in the timely completion of the project, signaling readiness for its formal inauguration by the NDDC Managing Director.

Acknowledging the community’s support for the commission’s endeavors, he encouraged NDDC staff in Abia State to maintain diligence in their duties, emphasizing the importance of rigorous project monitoring to ensure adherence to established standards.

Chief Dimgba Eruba, the Abia State representative on the NDDC board, stated the prolonged neglect of the road, citing its detrimental impact on productivity and socio-economic dynamics in the region. He noted the road’s strategic significance as a vital link between states in the Niger Delta, facilitating improved connectivity and access for residents and travelers alike.
