Delta State: Suspected Fulani Terrorists Abduct Police Inspectors, Cart away Weapons

Three mobile policemen attached to PMF 51, Oghara, were reportedly abducted by suspected herdsmen along the East-West Road in the Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The kidnappers, in addition to abducting the officers, also made off with their service AK47 rifles and ammunition. The abducted policemen were part of a six-member team deployed to the Ughelli-Patani Road nipping point, and their sudden disappearance has heightened tension in the community.

According to sources, the abduction occurred while the policemen were attending to a distress call from a local resident who claimed to have been robbed by suspected herdsmen under a nearby bridge. The team leader detailed the three inspectors to accompany the complainant to the scene armed with their rifles. However, upon the complainant’s return alone on a speeding motorcycle, it became apparent that something had gone awry.

The complainant informed the remaining team members that they had been attacked by six herdsmen in the bush, forcing him to escape while the policemen scattered in different directions. With the whereabouts of the abducted officers unknown, the team had no choice but to detain the complainant and call for backup.

As of the time of reporting, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State command, Bright Edafe, was unavailable for comment on the incident.
