Rivers State: Police deny Knowledge of Alleged N10 Million Levy on Community by Shadowy Cultists

The police in Rivers State have denied any knowledge about an imposition of 10 million naira on Ahoada community. Report has been making the rounds about a purported 10 million naira levy imposed on the community by sinister cultists who have consistently terrorized the helpless residents of the community.

The Spokesperson of the state command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said this on Sunday, after stakeholder in Ahoada West raised the alarm that suspected cultists were demanding N10 million security levies in some communities in the area which has plunged the community into utter confusion and anxiety.

She However, called on the stakeholders to follow due process by writing and making an official complaint to the police on the issue.

She said, “For now the Command is not aware of any levy on any community in Ahoada or any other community in Rivers State. If there is such a situation we expect the people or stakeholders in the area to make an official report in the Ahoada Division.

“They can even come to the command headquarters to come and report the situation because if they don’t report how will the police know what they claim is happening?

She, however, assured that the command is working round the clock to rid communities in Rivers of criminal elements and ensure that suspected criminals are apprehended.

A Stake holder who spoke to news men, but does not want his name in print for fear of victimization, said the community has been in turmoil since the demand was made. He lamented that the cultists have been on rampage in the community, which unfortunately led to the gruesome murder of the DPO, Mr Bako Angbashim.

He called on security agencies to come to the aid of the peope in the community saying the situation, f not checked may snowball into anarchy and brake down of law and order.
