Amaudo Foundation: Group Starts Campaign in Support of Mental Health Patients

A workshop on mental health concerns in the nation was held for media professionals in the South East by the Methodist Church Nigeria, Amaudo Integrated Mental Health Foundation, the Abia State Government, the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Enugu, and Amaudo UK.

Media professionals from the states of Abia and Imo attended the session, which was designed to inform them about fundamental mental health concerns and their role in raising awareness for effective and human-rights based mental health treatment in Nigeria.

The seminar’s purpose was to inform Nigerian media organizations about their responsibility in combating inadequate mental health awareness and harmful sociocultural and religious interpretations of mental health.

Additionally, the seminar was used as a means to campaign against prejudice and discrimination against people with mental disabilities.

The delegates asked governments at all levels to adequately address mental health concerns and outfit primary healthcare centers to handle instances involving mental health.
Rev. Kenneth Nwaubani, Director of Amaudo Integrated Community Health Foundation, said during a speech at the seminar that his organization is currently rehabilitating 64 mentally challenged people at the Amaudo center and that most of the residents have regained their senses and will soon be released and sent home.

He made a plea to the Abia State government, corporations, and people to support the foundation by building decent roads, giving energy, and raising money because the price of treating patients with food and medication is rising daily.

It was made plain by Rev. Nwaubani that all services were provided without charge.
