Cultural Affront: Gunmen Abduct Monarch and Wife in Kogi State

In a shocking incident on Monday, unidentified gunmen abducted a traditional ruler and his wife in Kogi State, Nigeria. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security situation in the region.

The traditional ruler, popularly known as the Adogu of Eganyi in Ajaokuta Local Government Area, and his wife were kidnapped by armed men during the early hours of the day. The gunmen reportedly stormed the palace, which is located in the Eganyi community, and whisked away the monarch and his spouse.

Eyewitnesses report that the attack was swift and well-coordinated, catching the palace’s security off-guard. The assailants were heavily armed and overpowered the palace guards before they could react. After subduing the security personnel, the gunmen forced their way into the palace, capturing the monarch and his wife.

The Kogi State Police Command is said to have swung into action, launching a manhunt for the kidnappers. A statement released by the police command confirmed the incident and assured the public that all necessary steps were being taken to ensure the safe return of the abducted couple.

The police have also called on local residents to cooperate by providing any relevant information that may help in the ongoing investigation.

Kidnappings for ransom have become increasingly common in Nigeria in recent years, with criminal gangs targeting high-profile individuals, including traditional rulers, politicians, and businessmen. Despite efforts by security forces to curb the menace, the situation seems to be worsening, with many fearing that the government is losing control over the security situation in the country.

As the residents of Eganyi community in Kogi State pray for the safe return of their monarch and his wife, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for improved security measures and a more concerted effort to tackle the kidnapping crisis in Nigeria.
