The Super Falcons have crashed out of the Women’s world cup tournament, after losing to the Three Lionesses of England in their round of 16 match at the Brisbane stadium in Queensland Australia.
Both teams played a goalless draw after an intensive full-time and extra-time match. Despite England being one player down, the English team held on for the whole duration of extra time after which they defeated the Super Falcons 4-2 during a penalty shootout.
Missed kicks by Desire Oparanozie and Michelle Alozie proved costly, which handed England the boost to win the penalty shootout.
Despite their exit from the Women’s World Cup tournament, the Super Falcons have been lauded by Nigerians for their impressive performance throughout the competition
Reacting shortly after the game ended, the Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF) via its official Twitter account said the Nigerian ladies performed brilliantly and should have their heads up.
The federation wrote, “Heads up ladies! Nigeria is super proud of you. The journey doesn’t end here. We have more beautiful chapters to write”.
