- Amoo claimed female accuser and a male mutual acquaintance tried to extort money from him
- Swedish girlfriend accused him of rape but later dropped the case when police looked into it
There are reports circulating about Akinkunmi Amoo, a former youth winger for Nigeria and player for F.C. Copenhagen, being sentenced to one year in jail for alleged sexual assault. According to sources, the 21-year-old received the verdict on Friday regarding charges related to sexually assaulting two women in Denmark However, these reports have not been officially confirmed
It is said that Amoo intends to contest the judgment delivered by the Danish court. Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana has stated that the prominent football player plans to appeal the decision in the High Court.
Akinkunmi Amoo was on trial for indecent assault, attempted rape, and rape in a non-intercourse sexual relationship. Testimonies from three women were presented, detailing their experiences involving the footballer. Identities of said victims are not known
It has been reliably gathered that one lady was Amoo’s girlfriend, who came from Sweden to meet him. She accused him of rape but later dropped the case when police looked into it.
The prosecutor supposedly sought a 21-month prison sentence along with deportation, but it remains uncertain what the final sentence was, if any. If convicted, Akinkunmi Amoo could face deportation from Denmark and a six-year entry ban, in addition to being required to cover the costs of the case
In his defense, Akinkunmi Amoo allegedly claimed that one of the women, who also accused him of misconduct, and a male mutual acquaintance, who were fans of the club he represents, attempted to extort money from him. According to his defense attorney, the man accused him of rape and demanded a payment to the woman as a “bribe.”
Throughout the proceedings, the young football player reportedly maintained his plea of not guilty to all charges brought forward by the prosecutor, including indecent assault, attempted rape, and rape in a non-intercourse sexual relationship.
It is important to note that these reports have not been confirmed and should be treated as unverified information until official statements or reliable sources provide further clarification on the matter.
Observers are lamenting the failure of Nigerian elders to arm young Nigerians heading overseas with world history and the harsh realities of race especially where young Black men are concerned, so they are more alert in foreign environments with less chance of falling victim to predators
