Enugu Police Parade Alleged Akutara Monarch Killers, Unveil Abduction Cartel

The Enugu State Police Commissioner, Kanayo Uzuegbu, held a press conference at the state police headquarters to present 11 suspects believed to be responsible for the murder of Patrick Ezugwu, the traditional ruler of Akutara, Adani Autonomous Community. The suspects, all male, were apprehended through diligent police operations, with initial arrests leading to the capture of others involved in the crime.

In addition to the regicide, the suspects were implicated in the abduction of a local politician, Vitalis Nwankwo, and four others. These crimes were part of a broader pattern of criminal activity, including kidnapping, car theft, gun smuggling, and robbery. The arrests, made between January and February 2024, were accompanied by the recovery of incriminating evidence such as vehicles, mobile phones, weapons, and stolen goods.

Commissioner Uzuegbu emphasized the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to address the escalating security challenges facing the state. He reassured the public of the police force’s unwavering commitment to establishing a safe and crime-free environment conducive to lawful activities. He urged residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with authorities, and provide actionable information to aid in combating criminal activities.

As investigations continue, some suspects are believed to have already faced legal proceedings and received convictions, while others await trial.
