Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Akwa Ibom State have made significant strides in combating illegal activities within the petroleum sector by arresting four suspects, comprising two oil thieves and two illegal miners.
Addressing journalists at the Command’s Exhibits’ Yard in Uyo, Mr. Eluwade disclosed the seizure of 4,500 litres of adulterated Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), concealed in cellophane bags camouflaged with palm kernel shells to evade security scrutiny. These arrests were a result of the relentless efforts of the Anti-Vandal Squad (AVS) along the Calabar-Itu highway.
In a separate operation, two suspects were nabbed for their involvement in illegal mining activities and other illicit practices within the sector. On March 17, operatives intercepted a vehicle transporting 100 cellophane bags of suspected adulterated AGO, followed by the impounding of another vehicle loaded with over 80 cellophane bags of the same product on March 19.
Assuring the public of intensified operations against vandals across the state, Mr. Eluwade pledged that the arrested suspects would be promptly arraigned in court following the conclusion of investigations, serving as a deterrent to others involved in similar illicit activities.
