In a historic proclamation, His Majesty Obi, Dr Emmanuel Efeizomor II, the traditional ruler of Owa Kingdom, has annulled a century-old ancestral curse that had long plagued the Ogbe–Ohun quarter in Owa Oyibu. The momentous event, witnessed by the Council of Elders and a significant assembly of the community, marked the culmination of traditional rites aimed at dispelling the age-old curse.
Records indicate that this curse originated from the alleged defiance of the immediate past King, Obi Efeizomor I, by the Ogbe–Ohun quarter, resulting in the community’s imposition of hardship upon them.
During a public gathering at the palace, Mr Samuel Chukwuka Ogboi, spokesperson for the Ogbe–Ohun quarter, lamented the enduring hardships and afflictions suffered by the community due to the ancestral curse. In a plea for forgiveness, community members recounted their wrongdoings and sought atonement.
Responding with grace, the Owa Monarch, Dr Emmanuel Efeizomor II, performed traditional rituals, invoking divine intervention to absolve the dissidents of their transgressions. Emphasizing the importance of repentance, the monarch cautioned against evil doings, asserting that no misdeed would go unpunished under his reign.
Members of the Elders Council condemned the sacrilegious actions of those who had falsely accused Obi Efeizomor I, considering it an affront to the monarch and the symbol of native authority. This unique ceremony, drawing participants from all walks of life in the Ogbe–Ohun quarter, signifies a pivotal moment in the community’s history.
As the ancestral curse is lifted, the people depart the palace with a renewed sense of hope, ushering in a new era marked by improved living conditions and communal harmony.
